Dr. Freed received her Ph.D. from the U.C. Berkeley Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Her B.Sc. and M.Sc. are in Industrial Engineering and Management, from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Dr. Freed's industrial experience includes leading process improvement and system development projects in the electronics and semiconductor manufacturing industry, as a consultant and as a senior engineer. She was also the first female electronics technician in the Israeli Air Force.

Her research areas include RFID (radio frequency identification), production planning and scheduling, design of production systems, development of information systems, production costing models, and organization design for effectiveness. She has published journal articles, a book chapter, and case studies on these topics.

She teaches courses in the areas of Operations Research, Information Systems Design, Simulation, Process Analysis and Improvement, and Electronics Manufacturing. She has been the advisor of numerous senior projects and master's theses. Many of these projects were funded by industrial partners. These projects span the range of industrial engineering topics, including facility planning, simulation, inventory management, databases, scheduling and capacity planning systems, yield management, budget risk assessment, cost-benefit analyses, and others.
